This menu command allows you to read in any presently available volume on your system. It will read in the contents of the volume you have told it to Open. You can also set the Preferences Command (under the Special Menu) to ignore certain files, like System files. Only Volumes using HFS can be read into GigaCat 4.7. The menus will change (as shown above) accordingly to allow you to Save Selected or Print Selected. The example on the left shows the File menu with no selections in the Volume/File lists and the example on right reflects selected Volume/Files.

The window shown above is the normal window for selecting volumes to read into a Catalog.
Should you already have read a specific volume into your Catalog and attempt to Open that Volume again, you will encounter the window below. It serves the purpose of letting you know that this Volume name is already in your Catalog and also allows you to update Volumes that may have changed since cataloging your volumes last. If you were not sure if the volume was in your Catalog and wanted to check, then just click on the "Cancel" button and nothing will change in your Catalog. If you know that you have made changes and wish to update your Catalog, then click on the "Update" button. If you are not sure, click on the "Update" button and if nothing has changed on that Volume, you just wasted a few moments, but have not altered your Catalog. If you click on the "Open" button, the volume will be opened a second time with a different volume number, but the same name (you could check back-up volumes in this manner to compare created dates, etc. to see if they are really back-ups or out-dated versions).
